Sam Jammal is trying to defeat Rep. Ed Royce (R-Fullerton), who has represented Orange County in Congress for nearly 25 years. Jammal said his experience growing up in the district as the child of immigrants, attending law school and then working on Obama’s 2008 campaign and in the Department of Commerce proved to him that anything is possible.
Sam Jammal wasn’t planning to run for Congress yet — the 35-year-old former staffer in Barack Obama’s Commerce Department is still paying off his student loans. But after watching Donald Trump win the presidency and thinking about what it could mean for Obama’s legacy, Jammal reconsidered.
Sam Jammal, former Obama Administration official and clean energy executive joins the race for the 39th congressional district, opposing incumbent Republican Congressman, Ed Royce. Sam was raised in the 39th district and lives in Fullerton.
“He’s always been an inspiring figure for me as someone with a biracial background,” he said. “I think Obama represents a brand of the Democratic Party about hope.”
