Looming Federal Shutdown Irks CA-39 Candidate

Sam Jammal on Federal Shutdown: “Instead of vacationing in December, Republicans should have funded the government. If you can’t do your job, then follow Ed Royce out the door.”

FULLERTON, CA –  Today, CA-39 candidate Sam Jammal spoke out against the looming federal government shutdown and the political saber-rattling happening on Capitol Hill. Up to 60,000 federal employees from Los Angeles, Orange, and San Bernardino County could be furloughed from the government shutdown. The federal shutdown will interrupt essential funding for opioid epidemic centers, veteran services for men and women who served in our military, and health insurance to children who live in extreme poverty, to name a few.

“This is stupid. I worked up there (Capitol Hill) and none of this surprises me. Incompetence seems to be a job requirement these days,” said Sam Jammal. “Republicans created a children’s health care and dreamer crisis out of thin air,” said Jammal. Democrats should be using our leverage because we aren’t running the place – they are. Instead of vacationing in December, Republicans should have funded the government. If you can’t do your job, then follow Ed Royce out the door.”

The 39th district is now a “Lean Democrat” seat following Ed Royce’s retirement announcement last week. California’s 39th congressional district has been a focus for Democrats to win back the House of Representatives – with Royce being active on the Democrats retirement watch list since September of 2017.
