FULLERTON – Sam Jammal, candidate for California’s 39th Congressional district, today announced the endorsement of Maria Contreras-Sweet, an Obama cabinet member and former Administrator of the US Small Business Administration. Contreras-Sweet, a resident of Rowland Heights, was also the first Latina to hold a state cabinet position in California.
“I have fought throughout my career to ensure all our small, local businesses have the opportunity to succeed. Small businesses are the backbone of our economy and create a majority of our jobs. Their success depends on electing leaders who will bring new ideas to lead us into the future,” said Contreras-Sweet. “Sam Jammal is an energetic, well-prepared advocate who will be a respected voice for us. He understands the struggle business owners and everyday people are confronted with daily and will work to eliminate the barriers they face. Without question, Sam’s experiences in emerging sectors of the economy and community engagement assure me that he is up to the task and will be ready on day one to fight for the people of our district.”
Sam Jammal stated, “I am honored to be endorsed by such a prominent national leader who has spent her career creating opportunities for others, while raising her family in our community. Coming from working class backgrounds, she and I understand firsthand the disconnect between Washington and the experiences of our small businesses.” Jammal added, “I will work tirelessly to ensure families have financial security, good schools, and safe neighborhoods.”
Sam is the only candidate in the race who grew up in the communities in and around the 39th District. He has experience as a senior official in the Obama administration and as a clean energy executive, which sets him apart from the field. Contreras-Sweet joins a growing list of Obama Administration officials who have endorsed Sam. Upon launching his campaign, Cecilia Muñoz, former Director of the White House Domestic Policy Council under President Obama and Jon Carson, former Assistant to President Obama and National Field Director for the Obama Campaign, endorsed Sam.
